Our Values
Wacoal was founded on the philosophy of mutual trust.
“Mutual trust” is a basic value underlying Wacoal’s business management, which has been embraced since its founding. Company founder Koichi Tsukamoto conveyed the spirit of mutual trust to us. He said:
“Wacoal was not founded merely as a for-profit company. Wishing to devote the life bestowed upon me to working for society and other people, I decided to start a business. Through various business situations, I considered the implications of what it is to live in society, and I finally realized that a relationship of mutual trust is the most important element to human society and that it is absolutely the best thing for communal living. That is why a relationship of mutual trust has been built and maintained throughout the long history and tradition of our company.”
Without the philosophy of “mutual trust,” Wacoal would have still managed to develop its business to a certain extent. However, if we look back later on the path the company has walked, I think that there will be strong doubts: Can we be proud of a company that has not built a relationship of mutual trust with each individual customer? Or, can we be really pleased at business results achieved without mutual trust? Maybe Wacoal will be able to continue to operate as a corporate entity even if it does not value mutual trust.
Without mutual trust, however, the “spirit” and “aspiration” of Wacoal would not be upheld or pursued. People can become happy only if they trust each other. Whether 50 years ago or 50 years ahead, this is a universal truth, which can be applied to a company, relationships between companies, and relationships between companies and society.
Our founder devoted his life to building a corporate culture based on mutual trust and creating a company that respects human dignity. I believe that it is an important mission for us, as those responsible for the next generation, to seek and adhere to this philosophy of mutual trust the founder of Wacoal pursued.

Our Values
1. Create products loved by customers
The way to create products loved by customers is to satisfy the needs of the customer by identifying what they truly want, creating products they adore at a price they appreciate and providing such products in a timely and suitable manner.
All of Wacoal’s activities are based on the goal of creating products that are widely loved, a goal which underpins all of Wacoal’s product planning, production, distribution, sales and promotional activities.
Wacoal’s products are high-value-added brand goods, and the people involved in creating them must never lose sight of their dedication and pride in the Wacoal brand.
Wacoal’s strength lies in the high level of quality recognized by its customers, and we must never betray that expectation by producing products of substandard quality. The safety and quality assurance of all of our products is paramount and not subject to compromise. True elegance and quality at a fair price is the essence of creating products loved by customers, without whom Wacoal would not exist.
2. Develop new products that meet the needs of the times
Customer awareness and sensibilities change and evolve with the times. Wacoal offers a lineup of high-fashion products that reflect the continually changing desires of its customers. Moving with the times means satisfying the needs of the market at any particular moment, which requires that we constantly develop and create new products suited to a specific time and locality. Developing new products to meet the needs of the times is a driving force in Wacoal’s growth.
The spirit of new product development is present in all of Wacoal’s business activities and includes the requirement that we provide the most responsive services and systems that we can offer. The ability to respond to change is the key to the success of our organization, and we must see beyond current circumstances to continually pursue constructive transformation. We must keep in mind that the loss of this spirit of constructive transformation will lead directly to the decline of the company.
3. Conduct business in a fair manner with a forward focus
Ambition provides great vitality, producing the desire and action to overcome all trials and tribulations to achieve one’s goal.
Our ambition is to create an international Wacoal, and our vision is for a vibrant future. Each person at Wacoal must be impassioned with the ambition to make this a reality. We must all walk a virtuous path and conduct our business responsibly—with strength and dynamism, but without conceit or servility.
We must also comply with laws, regulations and international rules, maintain good relations with our various stakeholders, and fulfill our social responsibility as a corporation. Legality, fairness, and openness are increasingly important in business, and Wacoal seeks to be a highly ethical company that remains open-minded and consistently reports the truth.
4. Build a better Wacoal through better human resources
Wacoal’s development can be accomplished through the improvements of every employee and the efforts they each make toward this goal. Wacoal’s most important asset is its human resources.
The best employees are those who possess the etiquette and manners of a mature society, who have internalized the fundamental spirit of Wacoal, and who work in a practical way to realize Wacoal’s ideals.
Wacoal will provide proactive support to foster the kind of self-sufficient employee who strives to improve his or her value and who is able to respond to any business change.
The ideal organizational structure for Wacoal is a group of dynamic employees who help, encourage and support one another and form strong bonds. This allows Wacoal to be a genuinely human organization united by mutual trust.
5. Fear not failure and boast not of success
Business activities can be fundamentally risky, and this means that we continually face new challenges and difficulties. At Wacoal, we know that it is essential to our business activities to maintain a spirit of adventure without the fear of failure—to face success with humility and difficulties with composure.
While focusing on its core business, Wacoal must also nurture new business opportunities that will assist in the growth of its core business. To accomplish this, we must have personnel willing to boldly take on the challenge of the unknown.
Wacoal’s robust vitality can be achieved by encouraging an enterprising spirit while maintaining a sound financial position, and it is these traits that will keep us moving forward.
